Do you have an upcoming jazz audition you are working towards? Be well-informed about the audition process so you can achieve your best result in this highly competitive field.
This three-hour workshop includes discussion and demonstration of audition techniques including information on the Conservatorium’s audition process, a mock Jazz Aptitude Test, and the opportunity for some students to undertake a mock audition*, which will be critiqued by staff members from the Conservatorium jazz department in front of your peers (this is optional).
This is an invaluable opportunity to ensure your optimum preparation for the "real thing"!
Disclaimer: this workshop is completely optional and is not a pre-requisite nor an official part of the audition process for any of the Conservatorium’s Bachelor or Diploma of Music degrees in jazz.
MOCK AUDITIONS
For practicality purposes, we will be using the Conservatorium’s undergraduate jazz audition format as a basis for the mock auditions. If you intend to do a mock audition, please ensure you are familiar with the audition requirements, which can be found in the Undergraduate Audition Guide at https://app.getacceptd.com/sydneycon, and that you have prepared songs from the list provided.
*Please note: due to time constraints, not everyone will be able to do a mock audition. The tutor will ask for volunteers on the day, and we will try to get through as many as possible - but if you miss out you will still learn a lot from observing others.
If you do wish to try the mock audition, there will be a drum kit, piano, and amps (bass and guitar) on stage for you to use. You will need to bring your own drums sticks, leads, or instrument if applicable.
WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT THIS COURSE
The tutor was really good! I liked that he gave very detailed feedback for each audition. The feedback came to be very useful even when it wasn't my instrument, the broad tips still applied. There was a lot I did not know and I know feel a lot more prepared and somewhat advantaged after getting the insider tips
The tutor was extremely helpful and really tested my abilities to make sure I would improve the second time round
This course gave me a lot of pointers in how to improve my playing. It was very nerve racking standing on the stage in front of everyone but I think it’s a good simulator of actual audition nerves.
