This two-day program introduces students aged 8–12 to the creative and technical process of songwriting and music production. Participants will learn how to develop lyrics, melodies, and harmonies, and use digital tools to produce an original composition. The younger cohort of SongLab Junior follows the same songwriting framework as SongLab, but with a more guided, creativity-focused approach, incorporating games, group activities, and opportunities to design artwork for their songs.
Students work collaboratively in small groups to create and record a professionally produced track. On the second afternoon, participants prepare a short presentation about their song—explaining its theme and inspiration—followed by a relaxed listening session to share and celebrate their work. Each student receives an MP3 of their group’s song to take home.
The workshop is led by Sophie Hanlon, an experienced songwriter, performer, and educator whose teaching combines structured learning with creative exploration, fostering confidence, collaboration, and artistic expression.
